I aim to help single mothers improve their conditions in life. I want to help single moms earn more money to raise their children and enjoy life as much as humanly possible. I know that's a tall order, so why do I think I can achieve these aims? Because I have done it myself!
In 1968, I was a single parent. My son needed an operation. My job did not provide insurance benefits. I would have to pay for the operation myself. Being prudent with my resources, I shopped hospitals. I shopped doctors. I finally settled on a very good hospital offering the most reasonable fee for the surgery. I had no hope of earning adequate funds to cover the hospital fee from where I was employed. So, I took a second job scrubbing floors and toilets. I even sold blood to make enough money for the surgery.
After the successful operation, it really bothered me over how vulnerable I was with no money and no benefits. Since I was not used to benefits wherever I worked, I decided the answer was to make more money.
Three months later I announced to my boss that I had decided to become a millionaire. He laughed. "How are you going to do it?" I said I really don't know, I just have this burning desire to do it. He asked, "Will you still be working for us?" I said, "Probably."
That year, the annual income from my old job was right around $7,800. Two years later, I had managed to increase my annual income to $580,000. In addition to my other income-producing activities, I was still working the old job.
That determination is pretty much what the book is about. Never Say Can't focuses on 9 Incredible Tools that anyone can use to make more money. I tell lots of interesting, personal stories to demonstrate how I have used the tools.
